Since February of 98 my 2.5 year Lhasa has had hairs removed from the under side of her eyelids. Since that time she has had a multitude of operations to remove the hairs. The procedures performed were cauterization as well as removing a portion of her eyelid. The left eye then developed dry eye (Keratoconjunctibitis sicca). She then developed a ulcer in the right eye which would not heal. After trying various eye ointments the cornea was scraped and the third eyelid was sewn shut to allow the ulcer to heal (keratectomy/nicitans flap). Maggie was very comfortable while the third eyelid was sewn shut. As soon as it was removed the animal was in discomfort and within 24 hours an ulcer developed as a result of more hairs.
She has had 5 operation. The operations were as follows:
remove districhiae cauterization left eye
remove districhiae cauterization both eyes
wedge lash removal left eye right eye
diagnois with Dry Eye - Keratoconjunctibitis sicca
left eye developed an ulcer which was treated with various onitments cornea
was scraped third eyelid was sewn shut - keratectom/nicitans flap
remove districhiae cauterization both eyes
The hairs cause Maggie great discomfort not to mention potential damage to the eye. Approximately every three weeks she has had eye lashes removed and I fear this will continue.
Does anyone have any alternative method of treatment?
